How Well Do You Know Your Travel Advisor?

How well do you know and trust your travel advisor?  Just some friendly advice, VET YOUR PROFESSIONALS! I don’t care if they’re a plumber, a dog groomer, or a travel advisor.
I started my travel advising business in 2021. It was the perfect time to study and get to know a lot of how the industry works. Since then, I’ve received my CTA (Certified Travel Associate) through The Travel Institute, taken numerous destination classes, sat in on resort webinars, attended conferences, spent several weeks training out of state with my Host Agency and creating relationships with travel partners, became certified with many of my travel partners, paid for my own travel, etc. I will continue my education until I decide to no longer help others plan travel.  #becominganexpertforyou
There are agencies out there that are MLM Multi-Level-Marketing based. They promise their agents “free travel”, “travel for less”, “make money off of your friends and family.” But their main goal is to recruit, recruit, recruit! And even worse, these agents will post in your friendly neighborhood FB groups promising you the same thing and telling you how easy it is. TRUST ME. This is NOT an easy job.
Many MLM agents lack training and commitment to a life of learning. They think that signing the dotted line with an MLM agency so you can “get free and reduced travel for yourself” is acceptable. It is not acceptable and is a disservice to their clients. How can they adequately plan your travel with little to no training? I didn’t get into this business to get free travel (3 years in and I’ve paid for every trip I’ve taken). I got into this business because I love to travel and more importantly, I love to make connections and have relationships with my clients.
