I almost always carry-on bags when I travel and seldom check any bags. I have heard too may horror stories about lost bags I guess. Plus I like to pack light so it is easier to manuever bags around.
Even though I carry on my bags I did purchase several Apple Air Tags about a year ago. I have two and my husband has two. We use them for backpacks, fanny packs, camera bags and purses in additional to luggage. They work great not only for flights but also hotels, and anywhere you may separate from your items. AirTag is Apple’s Bluetooth tracking device. It will passively track the item’s location whenever it pings a nearby Apple device. This can happen with your iPhone or someone else’s iPhone or iPad — there’s no cellular or GPS chip in the AirTag itself.
This works well due to the sheer number of iOS devices out there. If you leave your fanny pack at the airport or in a public place, chances are someone else with an iPhone will be nearby. If your keys are attached to an AirTag, it will ping their location off that iPhone and report the location back to you. There is no personal data transmitted in the process.
You can view the location of your AirTags in the Find My app alongside your iOS devices. Each AirTag has a small internal speaker so you can use sound to locate your devices at home, just like using Find My iPhone to play a sound on your phone. The ability to ping your easy-to-lose items (keys, headphones, fanny pack, a small bag) and your luggage is a huge relief.
Air Tags are a good investment at about $29 each and they may help you find your items when the airline or your searching can’t.
